Vibe coding platforms are technically similar. They accept a prompt and output a working application. So the question about which platform is best, is mostly around the infrastructure that a platform offers: who runs the database, where the app deploys, and whether the code can leave.

With this piece, I want to help you find the tool that works best for you. For each of the six vibe coding platforms shortlisted below, I've compared:

What is a vibe coding platform?

A vibe coding platform turns plain-language instructions into working software and gives you a workspace to review and change the result. These platforms fall into four groups:

How to compare vibe coding platforms

Give every platform the same prompt, then judge the outputs against the same checklist. The prompt has to exercise the frontend, the backend, permissions, an integration, and a deployment.

Here's one I tried:

Build a small appointment app for a service business. Customers should be able to create an account, view available times, book an appointment, and cancel only their own bookings. Staff should have a separate page where they can add available times and view all bookings. Store the data in a database, send a confirmation through an external email API, show a useful error if the email service fails, and deploy the app to a public URL. Before writing code, show the proposed pages, data model, roles, and build steps.

1. Review the proposed product scope

Read the plan or task list before anything gets built. It should name user roles and pages, data entities, permission rules, server-side actions, external services, failure behavior, and deployment steps.

A plan that lists screens without permission rules or failure behavior has skipped most of the application.

Check whether you can edit the plan before code gets written. An approval step matters once an app has multiple roles or data rules, because correcting the structure on paper costs one message and correcting it after generation costs a rebuild.

2. Check what the platform provides and what it connects

Separate the generated code from the managed services. For authentication, database, file storage, server functions, and hosting, work out whether each one is built into the platform, supplied by a connected provider like Supabase, or left for you to configure.

A managed stack cuts setup work. A stack assembled from services your team already runs slots into existing billing, monitoring, and access controls. Pick based on which accounts, bills, deployment settings, and data stores you want to own after launch, because you'll own them either way.

3. Confirm the mobile output

When a vendor says "mobile support," it means one of three things:

  • A responsive website that works in a phone browser
  • A web app wrapped for distribution through an app store
  • A React Native or Expo project that produces iOS and Android binaries

Only the third one gets you device APIs, TestFlight, and an unremarkable app-store review. If your deliverable needs any of those, verify the generated project type and the release process before shortlisting, because a responsive page in Safari and an IPA that clears review are different products with different budgets.

4. Inspect the developer handoff

Open the generated files and check the framework and package manager, the database client, the generated types, the environment variables, and any setup instructions the platform wrote for itself.

Then confirm the export path. ZIP download and GitHub sync sound interchangeable until you need to merge a developer's changes back in, at which point one-way export becomes a dead end.

5. Test success, failure, and recovery

Run the app the way a customer would. Create an account, book a slot, cancel it, then try to cancel someone else's booking and note what the app returns. Switch to the staff page and confirm a customer account can't reach it by typing the URL.

Then, begin testing the app in ways that's unexpected like submitting a booking form with the email API key removed, double-booking the same slot from two browser tabs, and refreshing mid-submission. Error handling under these tests will tell you if the vibe coding platform built the app well.

If you find errors, ask the agent for a modification, then measure how long a rollback takes when you ask it to undo the changes and whether it restores data along with code, and whether the deployed version needs a separate fix.

6. Estimate build and operating cost separately

The first bill for these platforms usually has two bills. There's usage billing for prompts, planning, model tokens, and app usage covering hosting, compute, database capacity, etc.

Note how each trial platform measures both. A plan with generous prompt allowances can still charge separately for every deployed app, and a plan that pools agent and cloud usage into one balance means a traffic spike eats next month's build budget.

1. Emergent: full-stack web and Expo development in one agent workflow

Verdict: Shortlist Emergent when one agent should build a React web app or Expo mobile app, a FastAPI backend, MongoDB data, integrations, tests, and a managed deployment. The fixed stack makes the workflow predictable. If you need Flutter, Kotlin, Swift, Emergent may not be the right fit for you at least for the moment.

Product scope

Emergent builds full-stack web apps, SaaS products, dashboards, APIs, and mobile apps on a fixed application stack: React or Next.js for web, Expo and React Native for mobile, FastAPI for the backend, MongoDB for data.

A web product can spawn a linked mobile project that shares the backend and login model. From there the web and mobile interfaces evolve as separate projects against the same accounts and records, which is the arrangement most products with both surfaces end up needing anyway.

Planning and build workflow

The main agent takes a starting prompt and creates and edits the frontend and backend. Then, specialized agents pick up integrations and testing.

Treat that first prompt as a product brief and include information about how you want to treat users, screens, records, permissions, external services, and the release target. Be as clear as you can because ambiguity makes the agent fill in gaps based on assumptions.

The Integration Agent works from integration playbooks covering more than 100 services, each bundling dependency installation, environment-variable setup, frontend and backend code, error handling, and example operations. Preview and deployment run as separate environments: preview gives you a temporary development URL with its own database, and deployment creates the persistent production service.

Backend and hosting

Emergent generates Python and FastAPI server code with MongoDB as the default store. Its API usage guide puts credentials in environment variables and warns against frontend files, where they'd ship to every browser.

Managed deployment covers the application build end-to-end. Emergent's deployment guide recommends walking the complete flow in preview before publishing.

Note that the preview database and the production database never touch. This keeps development safe, and it means seed data and schema changes need a deliberate migration step, because nothing you create in preview appears in production on its own.

Mobile support

Emergent's Mobile Agent creates an Expo and React Native project you can test through Expo Go or an Expo development build.

Store release runs through Expo Application Services, which builds the iOS and Android binaries and handles submission. You can download the generated mobile source for the store build.

Code ownership and handoff

Emergent has a GitHub integration that creates repositories, pushes changes, pulls an existing repository and branch into a new Emergent task, and saves work to feature branches.

This integration requires the Standard plan or higher but code download covers the handoff for anyone below that tier.

Testing and recovery

Emergent ships front end and backend testing agents. Ask the agent to test named flows and failure states by name to accurately test what's needed.

And there's also rollback controls that can restore both code and conversation to an earlier message, or trim later messages and keep the current code.

  • The Free plan includes 10 monthly credits.
  • Standard runs $20 per month on annual billing with 100 monthly credits, private projects, GitHub integration, forks, and both web and mobile builds.

Every deployed app also draws 50 credits per month on top of build usage. Budget for that recurring charge if you plan to keep several small apps in production.

Who should pick it: Pick Emergent when you want one agent running a complete web or Expo product and the Python-plus-MongoDB backend fits. Look elsewhere when the deliverable is a native Swift, Kotlin, or Flutter codebase, or when your team has already committed to a different server framework.

2. Lovable: visual web app development with an approval-based plan

Verdict: Use Lovable for a new web application where the interface will change often and the team wants planning, visual editing, browser testing, a managed backend, and continuing GitHub sync. Skip it for native mobile output or for bringing an established repository into the builder, because it supports neither.

Product scope

Lovable builds websites and full-stack web apps. All new projects on Lovable use TanStack Start with server-side rendering while the older projects continue to run React and Vite, and the output on mobile is mobile-friendly web interfaces. It does not build native mobile applications.

Apps can include authentication, stored data, file uploads, server functions, payments, external APIs, and AI features, running on Lovable Cloud or a connected Supabase project.

Lovable's own iOS and Android apps let you operate the builder from a phone so you can continue building on the go.

Planning and build workflow

Plan mode lets you discuss requirements, inspect the codebase, and edit a formal plan before any code is created. Implementation starts only after you approve, at which point Lovable switches to Agent mode.

The approved plan lands in the repository at .lovable/plan.md, with earlier plans preserved in chat history. Whoever inherits the project later gets a written record of what was supposed to be built.

After generation you can keep prompting and editing code and click elements in the preview for visual changes. That combination is what makes Lovable work for teams where designers and developers touch the same project.

Backend and hosting

Lovable Cloud bundles all the backend functionality including storage, databases, and authentication without a separate Supabase account. Supabase can also be connected to Loveable to store outside API keys as secrets, and call them from edge functions so credentials never reach the browser.

Lovable's migration guide flags auth providers, secrets, stored files, table data, and user password resets as items that need manual handling when you leave Lovable Cloud, so plan the exit as a project, not a download.

Mobile support

Lovable produces responsive web apps. Browser testing runs at mobile, tablet, and desktop sizes, which verifies responsive layout and nothing about device APIs or app-store builds. If a native app is on the roadmap, Emergent, Bolt, or Replit gives you an Expo path on this shortlist.

Code ownership and handoff

GitHub sync runs both directions: Lovable changes push to the repository, and merges into the default branch pull back into Lovable. Developers can clone the project, work on feature branches, and deploy to other infrastructure.

Connecting a project creates a fresh repository every time. Importing an existing GitHub repository into Lovable isn't possible, which is the single biggest reason to strike it from a shortlist.

A few sync rules bite if you don't know them: renaming, moving, or deleting the connected repository breaks the link permanently, and only the default branch syncs back, so feature work stays invisible to Lovable until merged.

Testing and recovery

Lovable runs automated tests at three layers: browser testing, front-end tests, and edge functions.

Pricing model

Lovable bills from a shared workspace credit balance.

Message costs vary with task complexity in default mode while Plan mode costs a flat one credit per message.

  • The Free plan grants five build credits per day up to 30 per month, 20 monthly Cloud credits, and four monthly credits for AI features inside deployed apps.
  • Paid workspaces spend the same balance on building, Cloud usage, and in-app AI features.

Who should pick it: Pick Lovable for a new, design-led web product that benefits from an editable implementation plan and managed web services. Choose another tool when the starting point is an established repository or the deliverable must install from an app store.

3. Bolt: JavaScript development in a browser workspace

Verdict: Shortlist Bolt when you want the prompt, preview, file tree, code editor, Node.js runtime, database, and hosting in one browser tab. Expo mobile apps are covered too, with two constraints: the backend must be JavaScript, and store release happens outside Bolt through Expo tooling.

Product scope

Bolt builds websites, web apps, and Expo mobile apps around supported JavaScript frameworks and Node.js backend code.

Python, PHP, and other non-JavaScript backends won't run in Bolt's primary environment. A product that already depends on one can still use Bolt for a standalone frontend; everything else needs a platform that runs the required language.

The workspace exposes the generated files and package setup directly, so you move between prompts and source edits without exporting anything first.

Planning and build workflow

Plan mode lets the Claude agent discuss the project and propose work without touching files. Say "mobile app" in the first prompt if you need Expo, because Bolt's mobile project documentation warns that web projects don't convert cleanly later.

After planning, the agent writes the application inside the browser workspace. You inspect the preview, edit files, install npm packages, and prompt for the next change from the same screen.

Direct source edits cost zero AI tokens, which makes them the cheap route for small, known changes. Bolt's own docs add a caveat: version history may not track manual edits the way it tracks agent changes, so commit or download before a big hand-edit.

Backend and hosting

Bolt Cloud, similar to a few other tools on the list, provide end-to-end app building. Supabase is available when you want database administration outside the platform.

Built-in hosting publishes to a .bolt.host address on any plan. But if you need custom domains and higher traffic allowances, you need to upgrade to one of their paid tiers.

The JavaScript-only backend is one limitation you need to consider before you begin building.

Mobile support

Bolt generates Expo projects for iOS and Android that you can test on a phone through Expo Go by scanning a QR code.

Remember to start as a mobile app right from the first prompt, though.

Code ownership and handoff

Bolt's GitHub integration polls GitHub and pulls changes into the workspace and merges still happen on GitHub. You also have the option of ZIP download if you need a local backup.

Testing and recovery

The preview shows the running application, and Bolt auto-fixes some build errors. For functional checks, prompt the agent with named actions and expected results. "Test everything" produces nothing useful on any of these platforms, and Bolt is no exception.

Version history saves states automatically, and you can preview, label, bookmark, and restore them. Chat history, ZIP downloads, and GitHub add three more recovery paths.

Restoring the database is a separate choice from restoring code. Read the database option in the restore flow before confirming, or you'll restore one without the other.

Pricing model

  • The Free plan includes one million tokens per month under a 300,000-token daily cap, site hosting, up to 333,333 web requests, and unlimited databases.
  • Pro starts at $25 per month with 10 million monthly tokens, no daily cap, custom domains, higher hosting limits, and token rollover. Teams plan starts at $30 per member per month.

Token spend scales with project size, because Bolt's token consumption rules charge for reading and synchronizing project files on every agent message. A large codebase pays more per prompt than a small one, and hosting requests and bandwidth sit outside the token allowance entirely.

Cons

Who should pick it: Pick Bolt for a JavaScript web or Expo project where direct source access in the browser matters. Strike it when the server must run Python, PHP, or anything else outside Node.js.

4. Replit: an AI agent inside a general cloud development environment

Verdict: Shortlist the Replit platform when developers want an AI builder that keeps the shell, direct source editing, Git, package control, multiple deployment types, and native mobile tooling within reach. More engineering control means more decisions about runtime, deployment, and cost, so this one suits people who want to make those decisions.

Product scope

Replit creates web apps, iOS and Android apps end-to-end. The Project Editor combines the Agent with source files, a shell, secrets, package tools, collaboration, and publishing on a single screen.

It also provides a Design Canvas that generates multiple visual directions you can compare before applying one to the app. From there, you can begin editing the generated source directly, prompting only when it's faster than typing.

Existing projects work as well as new generations, which makes Replit the option when the AI builder joins an ongoing engineering workflow.

Planning and build workflow

Plan mode produces an ordered task list without changing code or data. Refine the tasks, approve them, and the Agent switches to Build mode.

The Agent runs in Lite, Economy, or Power mode. You can enable app testing and code review, and Turbo modes on Pro and Enterprise plans.

You can move freely between Agent, Design Canvas, source files, shell commands, and preview, so prompted changes and ordinary development coexist in the same session.

Backend and hosting

Replit includes a SQL database, object storage, secrets, integrations, and cloud publishing, with App Storage handling persistent uploads like images, video, and documents.

Deployment comes in four types: static, autoscale, reserved VM, and scheduled.

Mobile support

The Agent creates an Expo project, runs it in an iOS simulator or Android emulator, and opens it on a phone through Expo Go. Replit's mobile guide walks from first prompt to a testable flow on a device.

Replit's Git tools cover everything necessary to run the complete workflows. When the visual interface runs out, the shell gives you the full Git command line.

Handoff needs no export step, because there's nothing to export from. The project already is a source repository, and handing it off means giving another developer access.

Testing and recovery

App Testing lets the Agent operate the application in a browser. Code Optimizations lets it review and revise its own changes.

Agent checkpoints record code changes and can restore files, Agent memory, tasks, and optionally database state, with a confirmation screen showing what a rollback will touch. Replit Pro extends database rollbacks to 28 days, and Git remains the durable record for source history.

Cons

Who should pick it: Pick Replit when an AI agent should work inside a full cloud development environment and a developer wants control over files, packages, commands, and deployment type. A non-developer who'd prefer the platform to make those calls will be happier with a more guided tool.

5. v0: full-stack web development for Next.js and Vercel

Verdict: Shortlist v0 when the application is a React or Next.js web project, and put it at the top of the list if the repository and production environment already run on GitHub and Vercel. It covers full-stack and mobile-responsive web apps.

Product scope

v0 builds interfaces and full-stack web applications, defaulting to Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui. Its own full-stack guide says Next.js produces the most dependable results. The full editor and sandbox also work against an imported codebase, so v0 isn't limited to fresh generations.

Remember, v0 ships an iOS app, and that app operates the builder from your phone. It generates nothing native for your users.

Planning and build workflow

Work happens in project chats connected to one application. Each chat takes a scoped change, runs tools, inspects files, and creates a Git branch when a repository is connected.

The recommended path is incremental: build the interface, add the data layer, implement authentication and CRUD, then layer on performance and production controls.

A Vercel Sandbox runs the editor, dev server, terminal, and preview inside an isolated virtual machine. Server code and database connections execute live during development, so what you're previewing is closer to production than a browser-only mock.

Backend and hosting

v0 leans on Next.js route handlers, server actions, and React Server Components, and connects to Supabase, Neon, Upstash, Vercel Blob, queues, and AI providers through Vercel Marketplace services.

Environment variables live at the project level. Server-only values stay on the server unless you add the NEXT_PUBLIC_ prefix, at which point they ship to every browser, so treat that prefix as a publish button.

Publishing deploys to Vercel. You can export the app and host it anywhere, once you've rebuilt equivalents for the environment variables, deployment behavior, and any Marketplace services it used.

Mobile support

Vercel's v0 produces web apps with mobile-responsive layouts. It doesn't produce native mobile apps, however.

Code ownership and handoff

v0 imports existing GitHub repositories. Each project chat gets its own branch, every code-changing message becomes a commit, and v0 never pushes to main.

Pull requests open and merge without leaving v0. After connection, GitHub becomes the source of truth, and deleting the repository can make the code unrecoverable, so treat that repo as the project itself.

ZIP upload and direct code export cover projects that never connect to GitHub.

Testing and recovery

Terminal tools run unit tests, inspect Git history, check deployment logs, and launch a headless browser against the preview. Browser use follows a user flow, captures screenshots, reads errors, and feeds the next change.

Because the sandbox runs API routes and database connections, tests cover behavior, not just component rendering. For recovery you have Git branches, commits, pull requests, earlier deployments, and a one-step "go back one version."

Decide up front whether Git or an unconnected v0 chat is the source of truth. Parallel work across both is how teams lose changes.

Pricing model

The Free allowance includes $5 in monthly credits. Plus costs $30 per user per month, Business costs $100 per user per month, and Enterprise is custom. The older Premium plan is closing to new customers.

Generations deduct credits by model token use, and input includes the prompt, chat history, source files, and Vercel context. A one-line instruction against a large project still processes the whole project, which is why credit burn climbs as the codebase grows.

Vercel hosting and connected services bill separately. Keep the v0 generation balance and the production Vercel bill as two lines in the budget.

6. Base44: managed web applications with app-store packaging

Verdict: Shortlist Base44 when the product is a data-heavy web app, portal, or internal tool that can live on a managed database, authentication, permissions, functions, integrations, and a static React frontend. App-store packaging exists on higher plans, with native-only features and backend portability as the two limits to price in.

Base44 generates React web apps on top of a managed backend, and the developer overview keeps the code and backend activity visible while you build. It works best for record-based tools, meaning apps where different users need different access to the same shared data.

The backend also runs as a standalone service through the Base44 JavaScript SDK, so a frontend built anywhere else can use Base44's data and functions without ever opening the builder.

Planning and build workflow

Plan mode interviews you about the app before any code gets written, and it costs zero credits until you click Start Building. After that, changes flow through prompts or direct code edits in the same editor.

Plan mode only exists before a new app starts, though, so later feature planning happens in Discuss mode or a fresh app plan. Save important product decisions somewhere outside the initial chat, because the project will outlive that conversation.

Backend and hosting

The managed backend supplies the database, authentication, access control, and serverless functions, so a generated app ships without any infrastructure work on your side.

Hosting covers static single-page apps with custom domains and HTTPS, and that's where it stops: server-side rendering won't run on Base44's frontend host. A frontend that needs server rendering can live elsewhere and reach Base44 through the SDK, which splits the frontend from the managed data layer in a way some teams will prefer anyway.

Mobile support

Base44 apps are responsive web apps that work in a mobile browser or from a home-screen shortcut, and that baseline holds on every plan.

On Builder and above, the mobile distribution guide says the editor can package an app for upload to the Apple and Google stores. Packaging doesn't grant native capabilities, though, and push notifications specifically don't work in Base44's packaged apps, so anything that depends on them means exporting the project and going through an outside wrapper.

Code ownership and handoff

Builder and higher plans support ZIP export and two-way GitHub sync, with changes merged to main flowing back into the Base44 editor.

Connecting GitHub changes how recovery works, and it's worth knowing before you connect: versions created before the connection stop being restorable through Version History, and disconnecting blocks reconnection to a repository with the same name.

Exporting the code also doesn't take the managed backend with it. Before calling a handoff complete, list which Base44 services the exported code still calls, because that list is your remaining dependency.

Testing and recovery

The preview opens as specific users and roles, and Test Data on Builder and higher gives that preview its own separate database, so role and permission checks never touch production records.

Deployed function logs show what ran, what failed, and how long it took. For recovery, Version History previews and restores earlier versions, and every prompt carries its own Revert action, subject to the GitHub caveat above.

Pricing model

Base44 splits message credits, spent during the build, from integration credits, spent by whatever the app does once it runs.
