# ClickHouse Managed Postgres

[ClickHouse Managed Postgres](https://clickhouse.com/cloud/postgres) connects to Mastra through [`PostgresStore`](https://mastra.ai/integrations/databases/postgresql), which uses the Node.js `pg` driver.

## Set up the connection

In the ClickHouse Cloud console, open your Postgres instance and select **Connect**. Turn off **via PgBouncer** and copy the direct connection URL. Download the instance's CA certificate bundle from **Settings**.

Set these environment variables in your application:

```bash
DATABASE_URL=postgresql://postgres:YOUR_PASSWORD@YOUR_HOST:5432/postgres
PG_CA_CERT_PATH=/absolute/path/to/ca-certificate.pem
```

Keep the password out of version control. Use the hostname from **Connect** and leave SSL query parameters out of `DATABASE_URL`. The `ssl` object below configures certificate verification.

See the [connection documentation](https://clickhouse.com/docs/products/managed-postgres/connection) for connection details and certificates.

## Configure storage

Install the PostgreSQL storage package:

**npm**:

```bash
npm install @mastra/pg@latest
```

**pnpm**:

```bash
pnpm add @mastra/pg@latest
```

**Yarn**:

```bash
yarn add @mastra/pg@latest
```

**Bun**:

```bash
bun add @mastra/pg@latest
```

Register the store with Mastra:

```typescript
import { readFileSync } from 'node:fs'
import { Mastra } from '@mastra/core/mastra'
import { PostgresStore } from '@mastra/pg'
export const mastra = new Mastra({
  storage: new PostgresStore({
    id: 'clickhouse-managed-postgres-storage',
    connectionString: process.env.DATABASE_URL!,
    ssl: {
      ca: readFileSync(process.env.PG_CA_CERT_PATH!, 'utf8'),
      rejectUnauthorized: true,
    },
  }),
})
```

The CA certificate is unique to your instance. Make it available to the deployed application at `PG_CA_CERT_PATH`.

Mastra initializes its storage tables when the application starts. The database role must have permission to create those tables and indexes. Run your application, then use the instance's SQL Console to inspect the tables:

```sql
SELECT table_schema, table_name
FROM information_schema.tables
WHERE table_name LIKE 'mastra_%'
ORDER BY table_schema, table_name;
```

For separate schema initialization and runtime roles, see the [PostgreSQL storage guide](https://mastra.ai/integrations/databases/postgresql).
